Due to the nature of where Jack and Ella are developmentally, they tend to spend the most time together during these long days at home. It’s been great fun watching them interact and get to know each other. The dog has recently become part of their duo (now a trio) and is always hanging around right in the middle of the shenanigans.
Ella loves to observe and take everything in, and Jack loves to push the boundaries with her. Their one common bond is that they both love to torture the dog. When Ella eats, Jack stands at her highchair grabbing food off of her tray. As soon as that food gets in his hand, Gibbs runs by and snatches it from him. The three of them have their own little food chain going. Ella will also purposely drop her bottle while she is in the middle of drinking, and like clockwork, Jack will pick it up and drink from it. To an outsider I am sure it’s quite comical. To a mama who is trying to make sure her child gets food and water, it’s a not so fun game.
Ella is pretty good about attempting to play with most toys you put in front of her. If she doesn’t like it, she throws it. If she does like it, she will either try and eat it in approval, or play with it, for what usually ends up being a short amount of time. Jack, however, does not like Ella playing with any toys and immediately crawls his way over to her and takes them right out of her hand. We go round and round like this all day long. Mommy gives Ella a toy, Ella plays with said toy for less than a minute, Jack snatches toy from big sis.
Jack sits on Ella, grabs her hair, and lifts her legs in the air when she is laying down. Ella pulls Jacks hair right back, grabs his face, and holds his hand. Their relationship isn’t much different than any other brother and sister out there. They both gang up on the dog poking him in the eye, stealing his toys, and grabbing his tail. The bond they have is truly magnificent. There are no words spoken and despite all the disputes, they are thick as thieves.
Ella doesn’t move nearly as much as Jack, so he clearly has the advantage over her in that department. She does get her own form of redemption though. Nothing makes her happier than when Jack cries. I am convinced it’s not because she is mean spirited, but because in her mind she’s saying, “ha, ha, little bro. That’s what you get for stealing my food.”
Love, love, love…
