Today was a busy day! I often say to Steve that I have no idea how I had a full time job and accomplished as much as I did. Between phone calls, preparing meals, caring for my children, appointments, social engagements, and sleeping, I can’t count the amount of free hours I have on one hand. How did I find forty of them to work? How does anyone?
Each morning after Jack wakes up, at an hour that is not my friend, he gets his morning bottle and falls back to sleep in bed with me. We usually play a cute little game of I am not tired, and then he passes out. Steve does not love this game because he is just getting home and settling in, while Jack is bouncing around the bed having a grand old time. His pre-nap ritual usually consists of at least one attempt to crawl off the bed and lots of sloppy kisses for mommy and daddy.
I was very strict with CJ and Ella about not sleeping in bed with me, but with Jack, it’s different. He’s my last baby, for sure, and I want to cherish every last second of him being young. I know how quickly they grow up. I said to myself just this morning that I can’t believe Ella will be six in October and CJ will be eight in December. It all happens so fast. Eight? It blows my mind.
That little nap with Jack gives me a much more manageable wake up time. He pops right up when he’s ready to start his day, scoots off the bed (with assistance), runs into the hallway, and finds his siblings to let them know he up. Ella is usually awake so he runs right in and greets her with a smile. This morning he found CJ sleeping and decided to hit him multiple times before sitting directly on his head, as his early morning greeting. Needless to say we had a cranky CJ at wake up. Today was the first time, before noon, he wanted to put Jack up for adoption.
Ella was in a funk this morning. Steve said she was up at some point in the middle of the night but we don’t know for how long. On those nights when she wakes up, she never cries and always puts herself back to sleep. We only know she is awake if we happen to wake up and check on her. She makes no noises and just hangs out in her bed.
Amanda was here bright and early to give her breakfast, but she didn’t hang out with everyone for too long after that. She was pretty tired and went back to rest in bed before we went to see Steve’s family. She never fell asleep so had a minor meltdown in the car before she decided to give in and take a nap. She was exhausted. Some days she just is. I think her body works so hard most days, that it needs a day of rest every now and then.
We had a great visit with Steve’s family. CJ loves hanging out with his new cousins and discovered his love for the trampoline today. I am currently on a mission to find one for him. I had no idea trampolines were so expensive. That might just have to become a Christmas gift. Jack was a maniac running around with all the kids and exploring his new surroundings. Ella loved all of her quality Nani time. She just smiles and smiles when Nani is around.
In between all that I was able to leave messages for the ambulatory EEG scheduler, make hair appointments for the boys tomorrow, and call the pediatrician because Jack has this weird rash behind his ear. I am pretty sure it has to do with the dog constantly licking it. Poor thing. It looks super painful and escalated from a dry patch of skin to a huge, red, irritated looking scab. We were advised to use cream and monitor. Rarely does Jack let anything bring him down. This ear annoyance was no exception.
I am exhausted. My body clearly has to get used to being productive and socializing. It’s been a long time. I am convinced this iron infusion didn’t work as described either. The doctor literally said it would be “life changing”. Not feeling that, but I do hope it elevated my iron numbers. That’s going to be critical for my upcoming surgery.
Off to bed I go. Check out our Instagram page to see all the fun stuff we did at Aunt Liz and Uncle Alex’s today!
