Mama gut speaks!

These last few days have been rough with Jack. He’s a handful on his best day so his worst is utterly exhausting!

For quite some time I have been concerned about his ears. He’s had way more ear infections than any of my other two. At least ten in his short twenty eight months of life. I was concerned, and I would share that concern with anyone who would listen. I always value feedback when it comes to things I am unfamiliar with and it was interesting to here the conflicting opinions I was getting.

When I find myself on a mission I tend to go all in. Jack has seen three ENT’s, all highly recommended. None could provide answers as to why he was getting these ear infections so often and they didn’t seem nearly as concerned as me. The standard answer was, “kids outgrow ear infections”. Somehow they thought that would be enough of an explanation.

Last month we finally went to CHOP. Dr. Ruiz also didn’t seem overly concerned but did tell us one more ear infection within the next month or so would make Jack a candidate for tubes. Guess what? It happened. He’s currently recovering from a pretty bad double ear infection. Dr. Ruiz also suggested we get an ABR (an under sedation hearing test) for Jack since he isn’t talking yet and won’t sit still in the booth long enough to get accurate hearing results. He was fairly certain we wouldn’t find anything but still thought it was worth looking into.

My hope is that this procedure will give Jack a better quality of life. My mama heart knows he has been struggling and I fought so hard to help. The pulling on the ears, the head tilts, the abnormal sleeping patterns were all reg flags for me. So next week we have our ore-op visit and from there we schedule a placement day.

This next month we have a ton of out of town appointments for both Jack and Ella. My mind knows I have got this but my body is fighting hard. Add all of our other daily obligations and I am a walking zombie.

Keep our little guy in your prayers. I hate seeing him like this!
