My insomnia is back. I don’t know what triggers it and I don’t know how long it will last. What I do know is that my nights are long. On average, I get two hours of sleep before Jack greets me in the morning. His smile melts my heart and quite frankly saves his little behind from any wrath he might have felt otherwise.
Thursday morning was an early one. I was exhausted the night before and thought for sure a good sleep was on the horizon. It didn’t happen. In the early morning hours, I woke in a panic. I had a horrible dream that shook me. I was awake for the rest of the morning feeling uneasy. I kept thinking all day that something bad was going to happen.
Jack had a meltdown before school so I let him cool down and then drove him in. I came home to meet my friend Jen and off to Lowe’s we headed. To know Jen is to know that she has amazing DIY senses and will brainstorm anything until she finds a solution. I needed her skill set for my biggest project yet. Walking through the store we were approached by two men asking if we needed help. Jen asked for directional help and were we given a full escort.
Little did these two amazingly friendly and helpful men know who they had encountered. In the middle of our banter, I came to learn that standing before us were the store manager and district manager. I just so happened to have a recent inquiry with the foundation and was looking to get some items donated. After sharing my story they immediately offered to help. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.
As if the day couldn’t get any better Jen and I secured and indulged in two Shamrock shakes from McDonald’s, she of course got a small making me the glutinous friend. We parted ways, I went to get Jack from school and came home to check the mail. Inside was the sweetest note from a woman associated with the International Rett Syndrome Foundation. Sometimes it’s hard to see all the good work you are doing so it’s nice when other people do and acknowledge it. It was the midday pick up I needed.
When you suddenly find yourself having more bad days than good ones, a day like Thursday is a good reminder to keep moving forward, knowing things will get better. Now if only I could figure out how to fall asleep at a decent hour.
